About the Film

TRUE SON follows 22-year old Stanford graduate Michael Tubbs and his campaign for a seat on Stockton, CA city council during a year of record homicides and impending bankruptcy. For Michael, a Stockton native born to a teenage mother and incarcerated father, engaging with youth is crucial to solving Stockton’s problems. In a remarkable election campaign, Michael returns home and rallies hundreds of young Stockton residents between the ages of 14-21 to join his movement to Reinvent Stockton. The film premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, and was acquired by the Fusion Network, a subdivision of Univision Communications.
